Ar-We-Va was playing its best basketball right before the break having won 4 in a row before losing to Exira-EHK in overtime on December 22nd . Their defense has improved this season and they have 2 capable scorers in Will Ragaller and Zach Schimmer along with one of the better rebounders in the area in Cooper Kock. Will need to improve their 3 point shooting (under 20%) and free throw percentage (61%). Their best win has been over Coon Rapids Bayard.

All you have to do is look at the opponents record to see why the Wheelers record is 1-6 heading into the break. They haven’t had an easy game this season but have competed hard. The win over Boyer Valley who was undefeated entering the game shows what they may be capable of after the break. They have struggled on offense early which has put a lot of pressure on the defense. Carson Bauer has done a nice job driving to the basket and hitting some three pointers. Gavin Smith continues to rebound extremely well for an undersized post.

Carroll has been really good this season and is excelling on the defensive end. The Tigers got a big win at Ballard just before the break and showed a lot of character after trailing in the 4th quarter. The defense leads to a lot of their offense but their unselfish play has made them very tough to defend in the halfcourt. They have 5-6 guys capable of scoring in double digits and have outstanding shooters in Kale Booth and Nick Macke beyond the arc. Tory Feldman has been terrific in all aspects and Colby Christensen has defender the ball and shared the ball extremely well. As good as Carroll has been the past 3-4 years this season has the potential to be their best.

The Crusaders have been up and down this season with a 2 game winning and 2 game losing streak. They closed out the first half with a nice win over West Harrison holding on down the stretch. They rely on their defense which has been good allowing just under 50 points per game. Tanner Oswald is having a nice start to the season scoring, rebounding and passing the ball. Gabe Obert paces them in scoring. They have struggled from the free throw line hitting around 46% this season. They opened the season with a nice win over Exira-EHK.

The Raiders won 4 straight before the break with two very good wins over Newell Fonda and SE Valley. They are beginning to gain confidence in other guys beyond Camden Schroeder and Tyler Schmitt who have been very good this season. Schroeder has taken over the point guard role and a rim protector on defense. He set a new career high with 21 rebounds in a game this season. Weston Drost had a nice offensive game and Tyler Wright hit 2 big free throws late to help them during their 4 game win streak.

The Wildcats dropped their last two before the break. They played well in the 1st half in both of those losses but could’t maintain their success in the 2nd half. The young team is still learning to put 4 quarters together but have shown promise. Carter Scott is off to a nice start leading the team in scoring and rebounding. Brigham Daniel has started to pick up the offense and could provide another threat after the break. Cale Klocke, Karter Kennebeck and Carter Soyer are all capable of scoring as well. They picked up a nice win against CAM Anita in late December.

The Wolves enter the break on a 1 game win streak but aren’t that far from being 3-3 instead of 1-5. They have had a couple bad 4th quarters and dropped a pair of tight games in which they had a chance in the 4th to win. Their schedule early has been very challenging as well with their opponents sitting at 32-11 at the break. Kyler Rasmussen has been really good going to the rim and is so strong in the lane. He can’t afford to get in foul trouble as they develop other scorers from the perimeter. Brody Swearingen is having a nice season in the post.

Kuemper dropped their last 2 games before the break after evening their record at 2-2. A close loss late at St Albert was a tough loss since they had a chance to be 500. They have been pretty good on defense this season but the defense has struggled. They want to hold teams in the 40’s and are giving up nearly 70 points per game. The schedule has had something to do with that with games against Carroll, Harlan and Ballard. John Mayhall and Mitchell Badding give them 2 good shooters from the outside. Isaac Evans gives them nice play inside. This team plays a lot of seniors but not many had much varsity experience entering the season so better things could be ahead after the break.

The Rockets were sitting 2-3 before a 3 game losing streak heading into the break. The Rockets had a nice win early over Glidden Ralston and on the road at West Central Valley. Their conference schedule hasn’t been easy with Ar-We-Va, Exira-EHK, Coon Rapids Bayard, Woodbine and Boyer Valley in their first 7 games. Connor Brus has been their most consistent scorer while Joe Carey and Bradyn Smith have also played well.

The Titans have been on a terror after their lone loss at South Hamilton early winning their last 6 games before the break. Their defense has been very good allowing under 46 points per game. They do a nice job sharing the basketball which fits their up tempo style. Brennan Holder and Cole Corey have been outstanding to start the season and Joshua Dietrich gives them an inside and outside threat. They can go 10 deep without dropping off much. They have a very impressive win over a good East Sac team in which they dominated the 2nd half.
