A portion of South State Road, near the inlet bridge at Black Hawk Lake at Lake View, will be closed for several weeks as construction on a fish barrier project gets underway this week. Landwehr Construction, of St. Cloud, Minn., has been contracted to build the larger, more effective barrier. Funding for the project was initiated in 2017 when the Black Hawk Lake Protective Association contributed $10,000 and the Lake View City Council appropriated $300,000. A portion of that came from Iowa’s State Revolving Fund (SRF), which encourages communities to put an extra emphasis on water quality projects. At that time, City Clerk/Administrator, Scott Peterson, explained the fish barrier will create a physical obstruction that prevents certain types of fish from entering specific areas of Black Hawk Lake—among other benefits.
The new, large pump will allow Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) personnel to conduct the de-watering of that inlet.
