Both drivers were uninjured following a collision between a semi and a pickup truck south of Arcadia on Monday afternoon. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene of the accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and Crystal Avenue at approximately 12:42 p.m. Their initial investigation revealed a 2018 International semi-tractor trailer, driven by 47-year-old William Leon Robeson of Monroe, N.C., was traveling eastbound on 30. At the same time, a 2012 Chevrolet Colorado, driven by 82-year-old Karen Lee Wetzstein of Lake View, was stopped facing southbound on Crystal Avenue and was preparing to turn eastbound. Authorities say a second semi next to Wetzstein was turning west onto Highway 30 and obstructed her view of the oncoming Robeson semi. She proceeded into the intersection, colliding with the tires on the rear driver’s side of the trailer. The pickup was deemed a total loss with an estimated $10,000 in damage while the trailer sustained approximately $2,500 in damage.
