Ballard At Carroll

Ballard 56

Carroll 38

A quick start and really good 1st quarter wasn’t enough as the 5th ranked Carroll Tigers fell to #1 Ballard in a huge Raccoon River Conference matchup. Tory Feldman came out on fire, hitting a couple 3’s and dominating the glass as Carroll led the entire 1st quarter and were up 16-10 heading into the 2nd quarter. Isaiah Peasley hit a couple 3’s and Ballard was able to establish the inside game early in the 2nd quarter. They opened with a 7-0 run to take the lead by 1 but Kelin Jones scored to put Carroll back on top 18-17. Another Ballard bucket gave them the lead for good. The Bombers outscored the Tigers 21-4 in the 2nd quarter and were up 11 at the half. Carroll was able to get good looks but couldn’t get a shot to fall most of the rest of the night. Both teams struggled in the 3rd as Ballard built a 14 point led heading to the final stanza.

Carroll made a run midway through the 4th quarter and trailed 42-32. They had a couple chances to cut into the deficit but back to back turnovers and Ballard extended the lead to 16 and Carroll wasn’t able to recover. The Tigers trailed by as many as 19 in the 4th quarter.

Tory Feldman had 9 points at half and finished with a team high 13 points and 8 rebounds. Treyton Goins and Kaleb Booth each had 7 points.

Carroll will look to rebound on Tuesday when they head to Bondurant Farrar. They have dropped two straight and sit at 12-2 overall and 11-1 in the Raccoon River Conference. They still have a half game lead on the Bombers in the conference race.

Lewis Central at Kuemper

Lewis Central: 66

Kuemper: 59

While leading by one at halftime, the Kuemper Knights were unable to win a close game against the Lewis Central Titans on Friday night. The Knights would get out to a rough start in the first quarter as the Titans took a 10-2 lead. The Knights would soon answer with seven straight points of their own, but the Titans answered those points with nine more of their own. The Titans would hold a strong 19-9 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter would still see the Knights behind a bit before they would start scoring points. At one point, the Knights would be down 28-20 with two minutes remaining in the quarter. Using their quickness, the Knights would respond by closing out the quarter with a nine points scoring fest to take over the ball game 29-28 at halftime,

The Knights would attempt to keep this small lead up in the third quarter to no avail. The Titans would end up coming back in the third quarter and take back the lead 42-38 after the third quarter. The Knights were close to gaining back the lead in the fourth quarter, cutting down the Titan lead to 52-47 with 2:12 remaining. This would be short lived as the Titans would end a close game with a final score of 66-59.

Individually for the Knights, John Mayhall would score a team high 18 points along with four rebounds, six assists, and one steal. South Central Calhoun Vs Newell Fonda

South Central Calhoun: 75

Newell Fonda: 68

After a nailbiter of a fourth quarter, the South Central Calhoun Titans were able to pull away for an impressive win against the Newell Fonda Mustangs Friday night. The Titans from the start were able to implement a fast paced scoring offense that allowed them to gain the early 23-14 advantage after the first quarter. The biggest contributor for the Titans in that first quarter would be Joshua Dietrich who led the team with 10 points. The Mustangs would still have some struggles in the second quarter as the Titans continued their fast scoring offensive push. The Titans would enter halftime with a 41-33 lead over the Mustangs. Dietrich and Brennen Holder would both score six points in that quarter, with Dietrich leading his team still with 16 points.

The third quarter is where the game started to heat up as the Mustangs were slowly but surely coming back. The Mustangs would get back within three points at various point in the third quarter, at 43-40 and then at 52-49. This was all thanks to Carter Sievers who ended up with three 3 pointers in the third quarter. The Mustangs would get as close as 54-52, but the Titans outlasted the Mustangs and came into the fourth quarter with a 56-53 lead. Both teams would start off the fourth quarter trading blows back and forth. Eli Wheelock, who was scoreless up until the fourth quarter, would go off with three back-to-back-to-back three pointers. The Mustangs would answer Wheelock’s threes with three pointers of their own, keeping the game neck and neck. While Dietrich would end up fouling out in this quarter, the Titans were able to hold on and win this game 75-68. While Trey Jungers and Ryan Greenfield were able to sink a few three pointers, the Titans scored efficiently underneath the basket in the final frame of the game.
