State To Launch Vaccine Information Website, Vaccinate.Iowa.gov, Friday

Iowans will be able to log on to the state’s new vaccine information website for the latest updates on availability and providers beginning tomorrow (Friday). Gov. Kim Reynolds says vaccinate.iowa.gov will be the go-to resource for residents to determine their eligibility, local supplies, and other important details once it launches.

According to Reynolds, the biggest challenge with vaccine rollout continues to be a very limited supply. Iowa’s allocation for next week is expected to be 91,100 doses and includes approximately 25,800 of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson shots, which are expected to receive emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) very soon. Phase 1A and Phase 1B of the state’s vaccine distribution plan has prioritized health care workers, long term care residents and staff, school employees and Iowans over 65 years of age. However, Reynolds says many of the state’s older residents do not have access to internet or computers to determine their eligibility or schedule an appointment. Starting in March, Iowa 211 will begin providing scheduling services through their phone-based system.

While vaccine supply remains one of her biggest concerns, Reynolds says the state continues to receive larger allocations each week and is seeing positive trends in nearly all aspects of the rollout.

The state is projecting 70 percent of eligible people in Phase 1A and 1B will have received at least one dose by mid-March with essential workers and disabled individuals likely hitting that same mark in early April. While these figures are only projections, Reynolds notes it is important to remember that once a group is deemed eligible, they will remain eligible until fully vaccinated.
