The Audubon City Council has selected a $1.583 million bid to complete required improvements to the community’s water supply and treatment systems. City officials unanimously approved the low bid from King Construction of Wall Lake. Clerk, Joe Foran, explains the scope of the planned work.
Including the work outside of King Construction’s bid, the project is expected to cost around $3.5 million. It is part of long-term infrastructure improvement plan in town. Audubon wrapped up a $5.1 million sewer line overhaul in 2018 that was funded through a $4 million Rural Development Loan and a $1.1 million grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Unfortunately, Foran says Audubon did not qualify for federal funding for this latest portion.
Instead, the city will have to finance the work entirely through loans. The city was hoping to avoid such a large expense, but Foran says they cannot delay these upgrades any longer.
City officials are currently working on contract details and exploring potential cost saving opportunities with King Construction. Foran says they are expecting to finalize the terms of the agreement in the near future with construction expected to begin sometime in the late spring or early summer.
