Miracles Continue To Happen At Northeast Park In Carroll

One local family is looking forward to warmer weather that will allow them to get back outside and back to a favorite spot. Ali and Pat Tigges, parents of Kellan who was born with a condition similar to cerebral palsy, first approached the City of Carroll about an all-inclusive playground in April of 2017. People and businesses from Carroll County and well beyond supported Kellan’s Kingdom and it officially opened for play at Northeast Park right before Labor Day in 2019. But the Tigges’ weren’t done yet and got involved with others in the community to bring a Miracle League field to the park that will allow individuals of all abilities to play baseball and softball. The surfacing was put in last fall, and Ali says they have a pretty aggressive schedule for this spring and summer.

The Miracle League, however, does have some guidelines that must be met before league play can be scheduled.

Tigges says their goal is to have league play yet this fall, even if it is simply a mini-league, just so people can get out there and see what it is all about. The pandemic has created other issues when it comes to building anything.

But once construction related to the ballfield is done, Tigges says they are not. Their non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization continues to raise money to bring more all-inclusive elements to Carroll and the surrounding communities.

Tigges says she has even heard from adults who have had medical issues and who are wheelchair bound that they have enjoyed the ability to easily move about the park. She adds that they just can’t believe how much support they have received.

She says they know people have been hit hard by the pandemic, but every single dollar they raise helps with this and future projects that are designed for all to use. Tax deductible donations can be made through any of the methods detailed below.
