A Dozen Area Speech Students Earn All-State Nominations From IHSSA

A dozen students from three local schools have earned All-State nominations for their performances during the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) state individual event contest. To be eligible for the recognition, individuals must be identified by at least two judges for their outstanding presentation. Seven students from Carroll High School and Ar-We-Va, which have a joint speech program, were nominated. These students include: Bridget Cameron and Sophia Polking for Acting; Maris Cameron for Literary Program; Aleah Casebeer in Poetry; Joewie Heithoff for After Dinner Speaking; Mishy King in Storytelling; and Brooke Reiling for Improvisation. The three Kuemper students nominated were: Britnee Irlbeck in Acting; Max Meyers for Musical Theatre; and Kenna Soppe in Spontaneous Speaking. Audubon had two students: Anna Campbell for Solo Musical Theatre, and Morgan Smith in After Dinner Speaking. Unfortunately, IHSSA will not be hosting an All-State showcase this year due to COVID-19, and students’ medals, certificates and All-State banners will be instead mailed to their respective schools.
