Storm Lake Police Department Arrests Two Men Over The Weekend On Felony Drug Charges

The Storm Lake Police Department reports two men were taken into custody on felony drug charges in separate incidents over the weekend. The first arrest occurred at approximately 9 p.m. on Friday, April 2 when an officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of E. 3rd and Superior Streets. During the course of the stop, law enforcement learned the driver, identified as 45-year-old Leonard Weimer of Nemaha, was barred from operating a motor vehicle in Iowa. After taking him into custody, law enforcement located a loaded and uncased .22 caliber rifle in the vehicle along with substances believed to be methamphetamine. Weimer was booked into the Buena Vista County jail for possession of a firearm by a felon and third-offense operating while intoxicated, class D felonies, and carrying weapons and driving while barred, aggravated misdemeanors. He was released after posting a $14,000 bond. The second arrest also stems from a traffic stop, this one at approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 4. Authorities say a K9 unit alerted to the presence of narcotics in a vehicle driven by 40-year-old Christian Wunder Jr. of Cherokee. A search of the car revealed methamphetamine, marijuana and drug equipment. Wunder was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for a pre-incarceration screening and became uncooperative. He allegedly kicked an officer and damaged a wall in the emergency room. Wunder was subdued and booked into the Buena Vista County jail for third-offense possession of a controlled substance—methamphetamine and marijuana, class D felonies, and multiple misdemeanor charges, including, interference with official acts, criminal mischief and assault on a peace officer. As of Monday, Wunder remains in custody on a $15,000 bond.
