Extensive Fire, Heat And Smoke Damage Reported In Storm Lake House Fire Tuesday

Residents of a Storm Lake home escaped without injury as fire destroyed a bedroom while the rest sustained heavy smoke and heat damage. The Storm Lake Fire Department was dispatched to South Windsor Circle at approximately 4:28 p.m. Tuesday. The occupants were evacuating the residence at that time. Upon arrival, firefighters found large flames venting through windows on the southeast corner of the structure. They entered and extinguished the fire in a back bedroom. They remained on scene for approximately an hour and half and were assisted by the Storm Lake Police Department, Buena Vista County Emergency Medical Services and the Siouxland Chapter of the American Red Cross. An investigation into the cause has determined it started because of an overheated power strip that apparently failed. Damage to the residence is estimated at $50,000.
