The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) has been allocated nearly $2 million in additional funding through the American Rescue Plan that was approved by Congress in March. According to Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, this is the fourth round of funds distributed to the school by either the state or federal government for COVID relief.
Near the beginning of the pandemic, the district received $122,000 from the CARES Act, which was then used to purchase supplies to reduce the risk of transmission in the school, such as disinfectant, sanitation equipment, disposable face coverings and plexiglass shields. Berlau says this latest round of money will be utilized and spent differently than previous allocations.
School officials have already identified many of the areas where students, particularly at the elementary level, have fallen behind and working to determine how best to use the $1.96 million. CCSD has received well over $2 million in funding so for COVID-related expenses and relief. Specific values are not currently available. However, Berlau and Director of Business Affairs, Gary Bengtson, are planning to meet this week to review the figures. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more information on COVID-relief for the district in upcoming newscasts.
