Saturday’s High Winds Result In Motorcycle Accident Near Mt. Carmel

Saturday’s high winds were responsible for an accident involving two motorcycles on 120th Street, about a third of a mile west of Kittyhawk Ave. north of Mt. Carmel. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office reported to the scene at approximately 10:45 a.m., to find two 2009 Suzuki AN400s, one driven by 61-year-old Shirley Etta Hollander and the other by 65-year-old Nels Amos Jurgen Hollander, both of Sac City, were eastbound on 120th when a strong, southeast wind gust caught Shirley’s motorcycle. She was forced into the north ditch on the right side of the vehicle, where it slid to a stop. Nels Amos’ motorcycle also caught the wind and he laid the machine down on its right side to avoid hitting the other motorcycle. Both of the drivers were treated for minor injuries by Carroll County Ambulance Service and released. There was an estimated $2,500 in damage to each motorcycle. The National Weather Service recorded 18 to 25 mile-per-hour winds at the time of the accident.
