CCSD Board Of Education Lifts Mask Requirement Effective Immediately

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education voted to lift the mask requirement on their property during a special meeting this (Sunday) evening. On April 22, the board decided to maintain the mask requirement through the end of the school year on May 28 and indicated they would not discuss the issue again unless the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) released new guidance regarding the use of face coverings. According to Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, he was notified Friday the IDPH’s recommendations had changed.

Berlau adds the IDPH’s guidance also included changes to required quarantine following exposure to a confirmed COVID-19 case.

The changes to the district’s Return to Learn plan are effective immediately, meaning students will not be required to wear face coverings to class on Monday, May 17. However, Berlau says some uncertainty remains regarding mask usage on school vehicles.

Carroll’s current Return to Learn plan expires at the end of the school year and will not continue into the 2021-22 year in its current form. However, if a new Return to Learn plan is needed, the board will address that issued in July or August prior to the start of school. Students, teachers and families should have also received communication from the district regarding the board’s decision through email or Infinite Campus.
