Pandemic-Related Changes Has Carroll County Relay For Life Now In August At Graham Park

For many years, a June event has marked the start of the summer season and brought hundreds of area residents together in their fight against cancer. There will be a change, however, this year to the annual American Cancer Society (ACS) Carroll County Relay for Life as it will be moved to a later date and new location. Everyone is invited to rally together on Aug. 29 at Graham Park. And though the pandemic has forced a different look and feel, organizers say the passion and commitment to this fight remains unchanged. “Whether we come together in person or you choose to support virtually, this event needs everyone to help fight against a disease that has taken too much from all of us, especially in the wake of the pandemic,” says ACS Senior Community Manager, Suzie Mages. “We envision a future where we no longer live with the threat of cancer. Unfortunately, that future is at risk and there is a mission urgency since COVID-19 forced the postponement of fundraising activities this past year,” she adds. Efforts are being made to ensure the safety of all as they work to bring back traditional elements. The Aug. 29 event will start with a parade at 5 p.m. along the ‘band route.’ The Carroll County Cattleman will provide a bagged meal for a free-will donation at the Graham Park pavilion, which can be enjoyed at the site. Survivor names will be read from the bandshell and luminaries will be on display throughout the park. There will be a silent auction running from 8 a.m. Aug. 22 until noon on Aug. 29 with details on items available viewable on their Facebook page, a link to which is included below. “Cancer won’t stop, and neither can we,” Mages says. More details about getting involved can also be found here.
