Late last week, Calhoun County marked a milestone at a groundbreaking ceremony for the first business park to be developed in the county. It is also one of the first to be constructed along rural Highway 20 since the completion of the expansion project in 2018. Construction is now underway in phase one of four on the 115-acre business park at the intersection of four-lane U.S. Highway 20 and Highway 4, north of Rockwell City. “The Calhoun County Business Park project was only made possible through the diligent efforts of numerous organizations working together toward a common goal,” says Executive Director of the Calhoun County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC), Jill Heisterkamp. “We are excited to see opportunities develop at the site and for this project’s success to influence future development throughout Calhoun County.” According to Heisterkamp, the placement at the interchange was strategic as it offers a great location for warehousing, distribution, cold storage and other logistic services. The project was made possible through a partnership with the CCEDC as well as the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors, Calhoun County Electric Cooperative Association (CCECA) and Corn Belt Power. The ISG engineering firm, City of Rockwell City and Twin Lakes Utilities are also involved. Phase one will produce nearly 16.5 developable acres and includes the construction of road entrances to the park, drainage and storm water detention along with the water and sewer infrastructure access for three buildable lots. It is located in a federally-designated Opportunity Zone and contact details for information on development incentives can be found below.
