East Sac Softball Puts on Great Performance at Pink Out Night, Grabs Win Over Manson NW Webster; Area Softball Teams Go 1-6 Wednesday Night

Carroll hung on against Boundurant Farrar, but let a few runs slip past them in their loss Wednesday night. The Bondurant Farrar Bluejays brought home two runners in the top of the first and one more in the top of the second to take the early 3-0 lead. Carroll responded in the bottom of the third where Josie Ayala was brought home by Ava Gross’ RBI single, cutting down the Bluejay lead to 3-1. 

Camryn Schable started in the circle for Carroll, and in the first three innings, she allowed thee earned runs off four hits, two walks, and a hit batter, all while not allowing any runs in the third or fourth innings. Alyssa Brant took over in the top of the fifth in the circle, and with the Tiger defense, didn’t allow Bondurant Farrar to score for another two innings. After three full scoreless innings, Bondurant Farrar widened the score gap as they added three runs in the top of the seventh and sealed the game away, giving the Bluejays the 6-1 win. 

Carroll is back in action on Thursday, June 24th with another Raccoon River Conference match, this time against Carlisle on the road.

East Sac and Manson Northwest Webster provided fans with a gripping game during East Sac’s annual pink out game Wednesday night. Fans, players, and coaches alike dressed from head to toe in pink gear to celebrate the survivors of breast cancer with the first pitches and releasing of pink balloons, and to honor those we lost to breast cancer. 

The matchup was stagnant in the first two innings, both teams unable to get on base. Laryn Sharp got on base in the bottom of the first with a single, but was left stranded. Manson NW Webster grabbed the first run of the game in the top of the third with an RBI single to take the 1-0 lead. Shelby Gerry was in the circle for East Sac and was backed up by a solid Raider defense that were on their toes all night. Gerry allowed nine hits and two runs in her seven innings pitched. East Sac kept Manson NW Webster at bay until they were able to get on the board to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Sharp was able to clear an RBI single to score a runner with bases loaded. 

Manson NW Webster’s response in the top of the sixth was a fence clearing home run to give them the lead once again at 2-1. East Sac wasn’t done yet, they’d tie the game and take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Maci Gustavson crushed an RBI double to score Kami Ross, and then Emersyn Mack reached on an error, allowing Alisha Thayer to score the leading run, giving East Sac the 3-2 lead. After a fly out to fourth and a routine 4-3 play, East Sac was able to win pink out night 3-2 over Manson NW Webster. 

East Sac improves to 10-6 on the season and 5-3 in the Twin Lakes Conference. East Sac continues their busy week with a non-conference road game against Ar-We-Va on Thursday, April 24th.

Coon Rapids Bayard kept their game against Woodbine close and played hard, but fell to the number two team in the Rolling Valley Conference Wednesday night. The first three innings went scoreless as both were unable to bring home runners. Woodbine broke the silence in the fourth inning as they got two runners home and took the 2-0 lead. Lacie Davis endured seven innings against Woodbine, where she allowed two earned runs off six hits, a walk, a hit batter, and recorded a strikeout.

Coon Rapids Bayard responded with a solo run of their own in the bottom of the fourth to cut down the Woodbine lead to 2-1. Lacie Davis was the runner who scored off Miranda Garcia’s sacrifice fly ball. Woodbine started to slowly add runs to their total, adding a solo run scored in the fifth inning, and one more in the top of the sixth, taking a 4-1 lead. Coon Rapids Bayard were unable to respond to those two extra runs and ultimately fell 4-1 to Woodbine.

Coon Rapids Bayard falls to 5-14 on the season and 4-9 in the Rolling Valley Conference. The Crusaders have an extended break from games as they return to action on Saturday, June 26th at the Nodaway Valley Classic tournament, with their first game against Orient-Macksburg at noon.

South Central Calhoun found ways to improve as they faced off against Newell Fonda Wednesday night. Brielle Korleski, Emma Geno, and Olivia Toms were able to reach base and get hits as Sally Musselman went six innings in the circle for the Titans, recording a strikeout. The Mustangs scored two runs in the top of the first and third, three in the fourth, and four more in the top of the sixth to ultimately win the game 11-0 in six innings. 

South Central Calhoun falls to 8-8 on the season and 3-5 in the Twin Lakes Conference. The Titans wrap up their week with a road game against Southeast Valley on Friday, June 25th.

Glidden Ralston continued to find ways to improve as they faced off against CAM Anita Wednesday night. The CAM Anita Cougars started off the ball game getting up 4-0 by the fourth inning. Glidden Ralston Freshman Tiela Janssen got good experience in the circle recording three strikeouts as she started her first game as pitcher. 

After the Cougars added three more runs in the top of the fifth, leading 7-0, the Wildcats were able to get a runner home and cut down the Cougar lead to 7-1. Brileigh Bock did well in her at bats, going 2-2 with 2 RBIs and scoring a run. The Wildcats added to their score with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, cutting down the CAM Anita lead to 7-3. Summer Toms, Ashlynn Tigges, and Bock all scored runs for the Wildcats with Kimberly Daily aiding Bock in the RBI department. 

CAM Anita ultimately put a book end to the game in the top of the seventh as they scored seven runners and won 14-3. Glidden Ralston will finish up their week with a road game against Rolling Valley Conference foe Woodbine on Friday, June 25th.

Ar-We-Va took on the challenge of facing off against Rolling Conference leaders Exira-EHK, but fell short Wednesday night. Ar-We-Va’s shining moments early on was their defense. Jadeyn Smith and the Rocket defense kept Exira-EHK scoreless through the first three innings. The Rockets grabbed the first run of the game in the top of the fourth, leading 1-0. Kora Obrecht was credited with the RBI as the run was scored. Exira-EHK was able to respond with two runs of their own, taking their first lead in the contest at 2-1. 

The Spartans kept their scoring success strong in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring three runs and two runs respectively, leading 7-1. In the top of the seventh, it was Delaney Schurke giving the Rockets hope by smashing a 2 RBI single to cut down the Spartan lead to 7-3. Unfortunately, the Spartans closed out the game before more Rocket runners could score, winning 7-3.

Ar-We-Va falls to 7-6 overall on the season and 7-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference. The Rockets will welcome East Sac to Vail in a non-conference game on Thursday, June 24th.

IKM-Manning scored a good string of runs late against Boyer Valley, but were unable to swing the momentum back in their favor Wednesday night. 

Boyer Valley got out to a quick start, leading 5-0 after three innings. IKM-Manning started to get themselves out of the five run deficit, starting with three runs scored in the top of the fourth. Ella Richards had a big night for the Wolves, going 2-3 in her at bats while being credited for three RBI. Richards also took the place of Brooke Booth in the circle in the bottom of the fourth, and along with her defense, kept Boyer Valley to a solo run that gave the Bulldogs the 6-3 lead. 

The Wolves continued to conquer the challenges Boyer Valley gave them as they brought home an additional five runners in the top of the fifth, taking their first lead of the game at 8-6. Zoey Melton, Hollie Blum, and Carlee Neil ran the bases well as they all scored two runs each. Melton did well in her at bats, going 2-3 and getting the offense going with a double. Boyer Valley were able to grab the lead back in the bottom of the fifth with four runs scored and took the 10-8 lead. Boyer Valley put away the game with five more runs scored in the bottom of the sixth and didn’t allow IKM-Manning to score in the sixth or seventh. Boyer Valley walked away with the 15-8 win. 

IKM-Manning will close out their week of games with a home game against AHSTW on Thursday, June 24th.
