Wall Lake Residents Invited To Second Community Meeting Wednesday On Future OF Former ESC Elementary Building

Wall Lake officials are hosting another community meeting with residents later this week as they work to develop plans for the future of the former East Sac County (ESC) elementary building. According to Clerk, Chris Rodman, doors will open at 6 p.m. Wednesday night and residents will have about an hour to look through the school before gathering at 7 p.m. to review the current ideas, new proposals and a tentative timeline for asbestos remediation and demolition work.

Officials hosted their first community meeting on June 2 regarding potential options for the approximately 12,000 square feet of space that will be left over when the property transfer to the city is finalized. Rodman says the process is nearly completed and all that remains is for some paperwork to be filed and the deed handed over. The city has already had some interest from local businesses in the property. Rodman says the Wall Lake Commercial Industrial Corporation (WLCIC), an economic development company, is purchasing the school’s music room for $15,000.

Rodman say WLCIC will have the final say on what becomes of the building once it is sold, but he believes they are hoping to bring a new business to town who can utilize the space. Several ideas have been proposed for the remaining space in the school, including a community gym, a youth center or a small hotel. Rodman says a plan has not been finalized and he encourages anybody with ideas for what should become of the former school to attend the Wednesday, July 14 meeting. Again, doors open at 6 p.m. with the meeting starting a 7 p.m.
