One dog is dead and two ordered removed from city limits in a dog attack Monday. The Jefferson Police Department responded to the 400 block of West Adams Street at approximately 5:19 p.m. on a report of a dog bite. Upon arrival, they learned a female resident was walking a Boston Terrier on a leash when two German Shepherds approached. They began attacking the terrier as four other dogs ran toward her with a male chasing them. The Terrier was dead when the officers arrived and two German Shepherds were deemed “illegal animals” under city code after the attack. The man chasing the animals was the owner, Larry Jon Hovick, and he was informed the two illegal animals had to either be removed from the city limits or euthanized. Hovick had the animals removed and provided details about their new locations. He was then cited for six counts of animals running at-large. All dogs involved had current rabies vaccinations.
