St Albert Sharp in Semifinal Win Over Alburnett

Class 1A Semifinals

Alburnett Vs St Albert

St Albert 10

Alburnett 0           (5 Innings)

St Albert scored four runs on two Pirates errors in the 2nd inning. That seemed to sink Alburnett and helped the Falcons soar. Jeff Miller held the Pirates to 3 hits and only allowed 2 runners to 2nd base, with one advancing to 3rd. St Albert played with energy, hitting Reed Stallman and chasing him in the 4th inning. They scored 4 times in the 4th, and put an exclamation point on their performance by scoring 2 runs in the 5th, before an out was recorded to end the game 10-0 in 5 innings. They will face a Kee Lansing team that rallied late to tie the game against St Mary’s Remsen, before winning in 9 innings. The Class 1A Championship game is scheduled for Noon on Thursday.

Jaxson Lehnen singled to start the 2nd inning. The Pirates defense was sharp in the 1st inning, with a nifty 6U-6-3 double play. They weren’t so sharp in the 2nd inning. After the Lehnen single the Pirates had back to back errors, setting the stage for a 4-run inning for the Falcons. Colton Brennan had an RBI single,  and Isaac Sherrill a Sac Fly to make it 4-0. Miller was on cruise control and his defense was tough behind him. After Hunter Caves singled to start the game, Miller allowed a pair of singles the rest of the game. A lead off base hit by Kale Rose in the 2nd inning was wiped out when St Albert turned a 4-6-3 double play,  and a force out at 2nd base took Shane Neighbor off the base paths in the 4th after a leadoff single. Alburnett did threaten in the top 5th when the Falcons had their second error. They quickly got a force out at 2nd base and ended the inning with a strikeout with runners on 1st and 2nd.

A pair of walks started the Falcon rally in the 4th inning. Jeff Miller singled to drive in a run, that was followed by a single by Colton Brennan scoring Eric Matthai. Isaac Sherrill and Cy Patterson each hit sac fly’s, and the Falcons were up 8-0 heading to the 5th. You got the sense after Alburnett left two on base top 5th that St Albert was going to close out the game quickly and they did. Carter White singled, Brett Klusman singled, Matthai was hit-by-pitch to load the bases. That set it up for Jeff Miller, who drove the ball through the infield and scored White and Klusman to end the game.

The Falcons have outscored their opponents 19-3 in their two wins at the State Tournament. They face a Kee Lansing team that has held their opponents to a combined 6 runs in 16 innings of play at the State Tournament.

St Albert improved to 34-8 while Alburnett ends the season at 29-10.
