Carroll Man Accused Of Assaulting Inmate At County Jail Sentenced Wednesday

A Carroll man accused of attacking another inmate following a June arrest for public intoxication was sentenced on Wednesday. According to Carroll County District Court records, 59-year-old Brian James Origer plead guilty to public intoxication and assault, simple misdemeanors, after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. He was sentenced to two, 30-day jail terms with all but four days of the sentence suspended. Origer was also ordered to pay several hundred dollars in fines, surcharges and court costs. The charges stem from an incident on June 2 in the 200 block of U.S. Highway 30. Authorities say Origer was found laying on the ground in a nearby alley with multiple signs of inebriation. About two hours after he was booked into the Carroll County jail, Origer attacked another inmate unprovoked by punching him repeatedly until law enforcement intervened. Following his release, Origer was ordered to complete one year of probation.
