Jarret was born on March 20, 1968, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Gerald “Butch” and Carol (Troutman) Golwitzer. He grew up in Dedham and loved to hunt with his dad, brothers and friends. He attended Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll and graduated from Buena Vista University, in Storm Lake, Iowa, in 1990, where he was recruited to play football; and earned additional professional designations at Arizona State University and The Wharton School. He always cherished his time with family and friends and there was never a dull moment when he was around. The countless stories continued to keep us laughing and we still wonder if each one was true!
He was united in marriage with Brenda Meiners in 1999 in Dedham, Iowa, their hometown. They settled into their home, surrounded by countless friends, in the tight-knit community of Van Meter, Iowa, for nearly 20 years before moving to West Des Moines. They had two daughters, Lindsey (Iowa State University) and Kaylie (senior, Van Meter High School), whom he adored and were the center of his universe, making it a priority to support them in all they did. He loved them more than anyone could think possible. At events, you could hear him cheering on his Blondie and Turkey! In 2008, Jarret and Brenda established a manufacturer’s rep agency, Integrated Sales, in Van Meter. Jarret was a pillar in the business community and an inspiration to all who knew him, involved in many professional and community organizations and groups. He loved what he did and the relationships he made meant the world to him.
Jarret had a contagious personality that drew others in, was always the life of the party, a friend to all and stranger to none. He carried his passion for life through his business and personal relationships, and his numerous hobbies: hunting, fishing, golfing, farming, beekeeping (yes, beekeeping) … socializing.
Jarret made an impression wherever he went and will always be remembered for his faith, generosity, do-anything-for-anyone attitude, ease of conversation, bear hugs and hearty laugh. Jarret had friends wherever he went. No one was ever more than two steps removed from Jarret Golwitzer.
Left to continue his greatness are his wife, Brenda; daughters, Lindsey and Kaylie; parents, Butch and Carol Golwitzer of Dedham; brothers: Jeff (Sonja) of Lithia, Fla.; Kevin (Shannon) of Elkhart, Iowa; Mike (Tracy) of Van Meter; father-in-law, Harold Meiners of Dedham; sisters- and brothers-in-law: Lisa Meiners (Joe Stumph) of Vadnais Heights, Minn.; Gary Meiners of Sioux Falls, SD; Kim (Fred) Campbell of Carroll; Deb (Randy) Russell of Ogden, Iowa; Mike (Laura) Meiners of Rochester, Minn.; Tim (Nicole) Meiners of Denver, Colo.; Tami (Brian) Larson of Ankeny, Iowa; Chris (Krissy) Meiners of Kihei, Hawaii; many nieces and nephews he guided (“teased”) as his own; and his faithful, ball-crazy dog, Molly.
Jarret was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Carol Meiners.
