More Fun Back In Education And Future Improvements Mark Beginning Of Classes For IKM-Manning

The 2021/22 school year rings in with the promise of future improvements for the IKM-Manning School District. Superintendent, Trevor Miller, describes the new proposal for a Sept. 14, $19.95 million bond referendum.

He says this will mean updated classrooms and HVAC systems for the Manning building, which was built in the 1960s and 1970s.

Details on public information meetings for this can be found below. There has been some work done on the Manning building over the break. Miller says they have gutted and redesigned the bathroom to the west of the gymnasium due to water leak issues. They have also updated sewer and water lines to alleviate drainage problems. This will mean a temporary placement of the playground until grass can regrow. The board is meeting next Tuesday and will finalize the Return to Learn and COVID-19 mitigation plans.

There are some changes with existing staff and new members that will be welcomed on board for the 2021/22 school year.

Open houses will be Thursday, Aug. 19 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at both buildings. Miller says they are continuing to expand their Best FIRE program that works with local businesses to do laser engraving, custom t-shirts and more. Everyone is excited to be working on their maker space and getting back to more normal activities like LEGO League and First Tech Challenge programs. They will also implement a new math curriculum this year. Miller says they are all excited to see a bit more normal this school year.

The first day of school at IKM-Manning is Monday, Aug. 23.
