The annual RVTV Cy-Hawk Tailgate Tour from WHO returns to Rockwell City tomorrow (Wednesday) night. Rockwell City Chamber and Development Director, Trish Mernka, invites Iowa and Iowa State fans to join them downtown in preparation for Saturday’s game, starting with the chili cook-off at 4 p.m.
Mernka says they are also hosting a bags tournament in front of Lynch’s Bar and Grill. Registration is $25 per team starting a 4:30 p.m. with the tournament getting underway at 5:30 p.m. Mernka says they are pitting Cyclones and Hawkeyes against each other for a pop tab collection challenge in memory of a local student.
A Rockwell City dealership, Champion Chrysler, will also have a pickup truck parked near downtown for people to fill the bed with non-perishable food items to be donated to the Calhoun County New Opportunities Food Pantry. Wednesday’s festivities also feature appearances from a few well-known Iowans.
According to Mernka, RVTV has broadcasts scheduled at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. with tug-o-war, coloring contests, a football throw and more planned between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The full schedule for RVTV’s stop in Rockwell City on Wednesday, Sept. 8 can be found included below. The Iowa-Iowa State Cy-Hawk game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames.
