The City of Audubon has been allocated more than $280,000 over the next two years as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), and officials are just beginning to determine how that money will be put to use in the community. According to Clerk, Joe Foran, the council was approached at last night’s (Tuesday) meeting by Audubon Parks and Recreation staff to request a portion of the money be used to install water bottle filling stations in the town’s public spaces.
One filling station costs around $1,000, and the council supported moving forward with placing six stations throughout town at sites yet to be determined. Foran notes Parks and Recreation also had another request for use for the federal funding.
They anticipate the campground project will not exceed $140,000, which leaves approximately $134,000 from ARPA unused. Foran says they have a few options on how they can utilize those funds.
The council directed Foran to continue exploring potential uses for the ARPA funds and to report back during upcoming meetings. They will review their options and take formal action once they reach a consensus on how the money should be spent.
