The Carroll Chamber of Commerce is busy preparing for two events this week—the final Live + Local concert in the downtown district this Thursday and the 64th annual Band Day Parade on Saturday. The highly popular music concerts in the central business district will close out with music from Cory Waller and the Wicked Things from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Bring your chair and your cooler, but leave your hard liquor and glass at home, grab the family and enjoy some great music. Then after a pandemic-induced hiatus, Band Day is back on Oct. 2 with the parade beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of 9th and Adams Streets. The parade route can be found included below, but the contestants will end the parade at the Carroll Athletic Field, where they will demonstrate field presentation. Trophies will be awarded for first through third place finishers in high school and middle school categories in Classes 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A. Bands will be judged on showmanship, marching precision and music presentation and then one band is selected by their peers to receive the overall Best Band trophy. There is a new group joining in the festivities this year. “We are so excited to have the BVU (Buena Vista University) Marching Blue and Director, Sarah Fabian as part of Carroll Band Day this year,” says Chamber Program Director, Ashley Schable. “They will participate in the parade and perform at the Carroll Athletic Field afterwards. We think they will be a nice new addition to this wonderful community event.” The Marching Blue will close the field performances that include the halftime shows from Carroll, Kuemper Catholic and Boone High Schools. There are currently 12 bands and more than 40 local businesses and organizations participating in Saturday’s parade.
