Iowa Board Of Pharmacy Warns Of Another Spike In Reported Scams

The Iowa Board of Pharmacy issued an advisory this (Thursday) morning warning of a recent increase in reported scam calls. Officials are urging licensees and registrants to use caution as criminals are posing as board employees or Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) agents to pressure victims into handing over money and personal information. Like most scams, the caller spoofs the origin phone number so the call appears to come from an official agency. They then demand payment for supposed fines or violations and threaten legal action or arrest if the victim does not comply. The Iowa Board of Pharmacy, DEA and FDA do not conduct investigations in this manner and will never demand payment over the phone. Anyone who receives a suspected scam call should hang up immediately and call the agency in question directly. Impersonating a federal agency is against the law, and scams should be reported by calling 877-792-2873 or by following the links included below.
