Registration is still open for the annual Carroll County Pheasants Forever Youth Hunt that is scheduled for later this month. The local chapter has hosted the event every year since 1997, and Secretary/Treasurer, Tracy Buck, says it is a great way to introduce kids to the world of hunting. He explains who is eligible to participate.
The 2021 hunt is slated for Saturday, Oct. 23 at the AVAD Hunt Club west of Coon Rapids on Highway 141. The young hunters and their guides will meet at 8 a.m. at the club for coffee, juice and donuts. Buck says they will go over firearm safety and give the kids a chance to shoot before heading out into the field.
The hunt lasts from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a 30-minute break at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided by the chapter afterwards. Buck says the youth-focused event helps kids develop a love for the outdoors and conservation.
The hunt is sponsored by the Carroll County Pheasants Forever, but participants need to supply their own shotgun and shells and must be accompanied by a licensed adult. The required forms can be found included with this story on our website. For more information, contact the Swan Lake Education Center at 712-792-4614 or any local chapter member.
