Formal charges were filed last week in Carroll County District Court against an Ames man accused of narcotics trafficking. Court records show 27-year-old Phelan Treaire Branch faces one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class B felony, and one count of second offense possession of a controlled substance, an aggravated misdemeanor. Branch was arrested in September on an outstanding warrant stemming from a July 19, 2020 traffic stop. Authorities say they located approximately 4.26 oz. of marijuana, 10.3 grams of methamphetamine and 0.5 grams of cocaine during a search of his vehicle. His arraignment hearing is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 18. If found guilty on both counts, Branch faces a maximum penalty of up to 27 years in prison.
