A Coon Rapids man arrested earlier this year for allegedly threating a police officer and bystander with a sword was sentenced yesterday (Monday) in Carroll County District Court. Forty-one-year-old Ryan Patrick McAlister was taken into custody by the Coon Rapids Police Department on May 31 and charged with going armed with intent, a class D felony, and first-degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor. Authorities say McAlister was found in the 200 block of 1st Avenue wielding the medieval weapon and threatened to cut off the witness’s and police officer’s heads during the incident. However, those charges were dismissed by the court, and McAlister pled guilty to disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 30 days in the Carroll County jail with all but two days suspended and credit for time already served. McAlister also pled guilty to possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor, from an unrelated incident. He was placed on probation for two years as a condition of a portion of his sentence being suspended.
