Lake View officials are reaching out to homeowners who may be interested in having city crews plant trees on their property’s right-of-way. Each year, Lake View applies for a small grant to purchase saplings through the non-profit organization, Trees Forever. Administrator, Scott Peterson, says Lake View has partnered with the group for years and plans are to continue to do so. However, they are taking a different approach this year.
According to Peterson, Lake View and its residents take great pride in their many tree-lined streets. Rather than simply replace trees on public property, he says they are looking to bring new foliage to areas that may be lacking.
Lake View generally receives about $1,000 from Trees Forever each year, and Peterson says they use that funding combined with some resources from the city to provide for around a dozen new trees. However, chosen applicants cannot request a specific species.
The Trees Forever grant application requires the city to designate where trees will be planted, so residents interested in participating must submit their request by calling 712-830-5115 no later than Monday, Oct. 25. Planting is scheduled for fall of next year.
