Kuemper played well and had chances on Friday but fell short in the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs. The Knights trailed by a touchdown entering the 2nd quarter but were threatening to tie the game. They hung close until the 4th quarter, tied at 7, before Western Christan scored on a long touchdown run and then their defense forced a turnover that was recovered in the end zone.
The Knights finished the night with 154 yards rushing and 85 yards passing. The defense surrendered 205 yards on the ground and 72 yards through the air but did have a pair of interceptions.
Western Christian struck first, thanks to a 61-yard run that set up a short touchdown run. The defense held firm the rest of the half, allowing the offense to find what worked for them. The Knights began to move the ball late in the 1st quarter and were in the red zone to start the 2nd quarter. DJ Vonnahme scored on a 5-yard run with 9:54 left in the half to tie the game. That would be the only scoring for both teams in the half and into the 4th quarter. The Knights ran more plays in the 1st half, but had given up 3 more yards.
A 20-yard touchdown run by Shane Habben midway through the 4th quarter gave the Wolfpack the lead late and they forced Kuemper to start deep in their own territory. The Wolfpack defense forced a turnover and Jeremiah Kredit fell on it in the endzone for a touchdown with 2:03 left in the game to put it away for the Wolfpack.
Jared Hausman led the Kuemper offense with 84-yards rushing. Cooper Pottebaum added 43-yards rushing and passed for 47 more. DJ Vonnahme had 21-yards rushing and 38-yards passing. Ben Gerken had a team high 39-yards receiving and Trevor Rial had 30-yards receiving. Max Peitig led the defense with 9.5 tackles and Cal Wanninger had 7 tackles. Nate Overmohle and DJ Vonnahme each had an interception.

The Carroll Tigers season came to an end as they played valiantly, but ultimately lost to Sergeant Bluff-Luton in week nine.
The Tigers were able to hold off the Warriors in their first offensive position, but Sergeant Bluff-Luton utilized the throwing arm of quarterback Tyler Smith to get down the field in four snaps to complete a long touchdown pass, taking the 7-0 lead. On the ensuing Warrior offensive drive, the Tigers were able to hold them off once more to turnover the ball on downs on their own 20 yard line, but the Tigers fumbled the ball on their first snap and coughed up the ball to the Warriors. Despite some miscues, the Tigers held the Warriors to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. The Warriors put up a lone touchdown in the second quarter as the Tigers did a good job at anticipating the long throws from Smith and the Sergeant Bluff-Luton running game as well.
Up 21-0 heading into the second half, the Warriors themselves had miscues that led to Carroll getting another strong defensive stop. Sergeant Bluff-Luton after their own defensive stop got a long pass to Jake Hamilton that was caught for an 84-yard touchdown. Despite a tough night offensively, Ethan Langeling was still finding his guys downfield. He ended the game going 22 for 40 for 240 yards and a touchdown, but had three interceptions. That lone touchdown for the Tigers came late in the fourth quarter as Langeling found Remy Richardson for a 47 yard touchdown. With a few minutes left on the board, the Warriors took their time and kneeled down to take it over the Tigers 41-7. The Tigers season ends with a final record of 5-4.

Defenses controlled most of the first half while the offenses took over in the 2nd half with the two teams combining for five full possessions in the 2nd half with four of the five going for at least nine plays. The Wolves had chances late in the 1st half and to open the 2nd half to tie the game but weren’t able to finish off drives and the Wolverines took advantage, extending their lead. The Wolves finished with 273 yards offensively and gave up 268 yards to the Wolverines. IKM-Manning turned the ball over on downs in South O’Brien territory four times and started another drive at their own 46 and punted in South O’Brien territory.
Both teams punted after three play drives to open the game as the defenses were winning the line of scrimmage. The Wolverines were able to take advantage of field position on their second drive, starting at the Wolves 47. They found some success on the ground with Parker Struve but the Wolves defense stuffed them inside the red zone and forced a field goal. IKM-Manning got pressure up front and blocked the field goal, returning it to their own 20 yard line. IKM-Manning was forced to punt again and South O’Brien fumbled it recovered by the Wolves at their own 46 yard line. The offense wasn’t able to find a rhythm and punted again after three plays. South O’Brien took over and wasn’t able to pick up a first down but IKM-Manning muffed the punt and South O’Brien recovered at the IKM-Manning 35. On the second play from scrimmage Parker Struve broke into the open field and scored on a 32-yard run to put the Wolverines up 7-0 to end the 1st quarter.
IKM-Manning nearly responded to start the 2nd quarter hitting a big pass on a great catch by Eli Dreyer, keeping their drive alive. The Wolves would end the drive on downs at the Wolverines 17 yard line. The defense forced a quick put, giving the offense the ball at their own 6-yard line with 5:21 left in the half. IKM-Manning mounted a nice drive, working in the pass with a tough run game and moved the ball down the field. They began to run low on time and had to go away from the run game and ended up stalling at the Wolverines 26 yard line with 0:18 left in the half.
IKM-Manning started the 2nd half with the ball and marched down the field on a 15-play drive but it ended on downs at the Wolverines 16-yard line. That appeared to take the wind out of the Wolves’ sails as Struve broke off a 55-yard run and South O’Brien went 84-yards in 6-plays, scoring a touchdown to go ahead 14-0. IKM-Manning responded and got right back into the game. Amos Rasmussen scored from 2-yards out and the Wolves went 60-yards on 9-plays and trailed 14-7 with 10:11 left in the game. South O’Brien extended the lead on their next drive, moving the ball 69-yards with Struve scoring on an 8-yard run with 3:56 left. IKM-Manning nearly responded but their 12-play drive fell short, turning it over on downs at the Wolverines 9-yard line with 0:17 left.
Amos Rasmussen and Cooper Irlmeier both ran the ball well and finished with 121 and 78-yard respectively. The Wolves didn’t hit many passes but Eli Dreyer and Hunter Smith led the team with 36 and 26-yards receiving. Cooper Perdew led the defense effort with 8.5 tackles and Luke Ramsey finished with 7.5 tackles along with a fumble recovery.
The loss ends the Wolves season at 5-4.

South Central Calhoun played hard from start to finish against Emmetsburg Friday night, getting them the win and one step closer to a return to the dome.
A big part of the Titans success in this game was their run game. In the first quarter, Gavin Batta took the ball himself and got South Central Calhoun up 13-0 with two rushing touchdowns from inside the red zone. The Titans continued to roll in the second quarter as Kevin King and Jayden Soard both rumbled into the endzone for rushing touchdowns, getting the Titans up 26-7 at halftime. South Central Calhoun in the second half were able to keep their lead steady at 26-7 in the third quarter despite not scoring. They were able extend their lead in the fourth quarter thanks to a 16 yard touchdown jaunt by Blake McAlister, giving them a 34-7 lead. While Emmetsburg was able to add one more score to the board with 1:38 left to play, the Titans lead was too much to catch up to, and South Central Calhoun were able to grab a home playoff win with a final score of 34-13.

McAlister led the Titans in their ground game with 19 carries for 99 yards and a touchdown. Gavin Batta had five carries of his own for 17 yards and two rushing touchdowns. The Titans improve to 8-1 on the season. South Central Calhoun will play host in round two as they take on AC-GC in the round of 16 on Friday, October 29th. The winner of Friday’s contest will take on the winner of Woodward-Granger and Van Meter.

The Wheelers started slowly but finished quickly, advancing into the round of 16 where they will travel to Montezuma on Friday on 93.7 KKRL. The Wheelers trailed after the first quarter but outscored the Vikings 38-6 during the middle of the game and were up 45-20 heading into the fourth quarter. Audubon ran for 362 yards and passed for 105 more. The defense gave up 201 yards rushing and 91 yards passing. The Audubon offense scored on nine of their eleven drives, turning it over on downs at the Viking 17-yard line and throwing an interception on their empty possessions. They scored seven touchdowns, twice scoring touchdowns on three straight possessions.
The Wheelers opening drive ended on downs to start the game and Stanton-Essex answered with a three play drive that ended with a 60-yard touchdown pass to Carter Johnson. The Viking struck first and led 8-0. Audubon struck right back as Gavin Smith busted free for a 58-yard touchdown run. The Vikings weren’t done scoring in the 1st quarter, marching 65-yards on 11-plays and scoring on a 3-yard run by Jack Roberts. They led the Wheelers 14-7 heading into the 2nd quarter. Audubon defense got going in the 2nd quarter which helped ignite the offense. The defense turned the Vikings over on downs on their next possession, then forced two straight punts. The Wheelers offense scored two touchdowns and kicked a field goal during that stretch to take command. Gavin Smith scored on a 1-yard run, a 13-yard run and Matthew Beisswenger kicked a 42-yard field goal and the Wheelers were up 24-14 with 0:47 left in the half.
Stanton Essex cut into the Wheelers lead to start the 2nd half on a Carter Johnson 43-yard run. That would be their last score as they punted on their next three possessions and threw an interception in the final few minutes. Gavin Smith had his fourth rushing touchdown of the game,scoring on a 1-yard run, putting the Wheelers up 31-20. Braden Wessel scored on a 14-yard run, Smith added another 11-yard run, Matthew Beisswenger booted a 31-yard field goal and Carter Andreasen scored on a 17-yard run and the Wheelers rolled to the win.
Gavin Smith ran for 259 yards with 5 touchdowns while throwing for 105 yards. Carter Andreasen added 74 yards and a touchdown rushing. Garrett Christensen had a team high 36 yards receiving while Jackson Deist led the team with a pair of catches. Gavin Larsen paced the defense with 12 tackles. Braden Wessel added an interception.
Audubon improves to 8-1 on the season and will head to 10-0 Montezuma on 93-7 KKRL.

Glidden Ralston took on Woodbine Friday in a week nine matchup, with the Wildcats finding some success early.
The Wildcats and Tigers kept it close in the first quarter as the Tigers took an 8-6 lead over Glidden Ralston. Woodbine came alive in the second quarter as they scored 24 unanswered points to extend their lead to 32-9. The Tigers continued to put on points in the third quarter as they further extended their lead to 54-9. Glidden Ralston in the fourth quarter was able to grab a touchdown to cut down the large Woodbine lead to 54-15, but ultimately it was the Tigers that walked away with the victory. Ethan Olberding and Colby Wallace both passed for a touchdown while Caden Smith led the team with seven receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown. Glidden Ralston’s season ends with a final record of 2-7.
