Area Residents Urged To Exercise Caution And Ensure Person Claiming To Be With Assessor’s Office Actually Is

Carroll County Attorney, John Werden, is cautioning area residents to take extra precautions when someone appears at their door, claiming to be a representative of the County Assessor’s Office. An Arcadia woman was arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 2 after a report was made to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office about an incident near Breda. The woman allegedly told the homeowner she was there on behalf of the Assessor for an inspection. The woman was allowed entry, and the reporting party told authorities they later found about 10 prescription pain medications missing from their bedroom. Assessments of urban residences in Carroll are underway, having begun on Sept. 1 with an estimated completion date of Dec. 31, 2022. According to Carroll County Assessor, Cindy Heuton, property owners are being asked to comply and allow representatives with Vanguard Appraisals, Inc. to inspect their homes. Everyone should, however, first ensure the party claiming to be affiliated with the Assessor actually is. Each of these individuals has an identification card, which is signed by Heuton. In addition, local law enforcement has a listing of all Vanguard employee names and license plate numbers and is aware of the locations they are inspecting. Anyone with questions about the validity of claims such as this can contact local law enforcement or the Assessor’s Office at 712-792-9973.
