Change is coming to the Carroll City Council with three new councilmembers and a new mayor taking office at the beginning of 2022. One of those individuals is at-large candidate, JJ Schreck, who was running unopposed in last night’s (Tuesday) election. Schreck tallied 2,105 votes compared to just 85 write-ins. Schreck says she is so thankful for the widespread support from voters.
Data from the Iowa Secretary of State shows Carroll County had 29.57-percent voter turnout with only Cass, Greene and Winneshiek Counties higher. The statewide turnout came in at 19.24 percent. The outcome of the election confirms the dissatisfaction with city government that she and the other newcomers were hearing from voters heading into Nov. 2. Schreck predicts there will be a noticeable shift in how municipal business is handled.
Schreck and the other winning candidates campaigned under the same political action committee (PAC) and have a similar vision for the community. She says that vision will be truly shaped by Carroll residents.
She says the next several months will be spent preparing to take her seat on the council with more research into budgets, ongoing projects and other city business. Schreck says the outgoing at-large councilman, Jerry Fleshner, has already reached out to her, and she fully intends to take advantage of any insight he might have.
