Nothing beats a great workout in some brisk weather and the upcoming Jingle Bell Fun Run has the added benefit of helping those in need this holiday season. Bobbie Sue Onken and Joellen Buerckley, with Caring Hearts of West Central Iowa, say they are thrilled to be hosting the Dec. 11 event for people of all abilities and they promise participants will come away feeling energized in many different ways. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. at Swan Lake State Park and the race will get underway at 2 p.m. Onken says the entry fee is $25 per person.
Onken says 100 percent of the money raised goes right back into the community.
Buerckley adds there are other ways to help out as they are also looking for sponsors.
Onken and Buerckley want people to have fun with this outing. Everyone is invited to be there with their “bells on” and to sport some holiday gear. Onken says later that night, the fun continues at the Holiday Hoopla and Trivia Night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Santa Maria Winery. This event features some great raffle prizes as well. Tickets for the evening event are $25 per person or $40 per couple. The nonprofit Caring Hearts of West Central Iowa was started about a year ago in Carroll with that identified goal of helping individuals of all ages with different abilities and Onken says it has been a fabulous year. This has only been possible, she adds, because of the support they have received.
