The November Pella Staff Member of the Month was nominated by the Kuemper second-grade teachers for her hard work and dedication since their back-to-school night in August. Mallory Soyer, Jill Wunschel and Holly Janning wrote about Sara Messerich, a long-term substitute teacher. They say she welcomed each child into the classroom with a smile each day and created unique lesson plans that not only enriched the existing curriculum but met the needs of each and every student. “We believe that Sara has went above and beyond her substitute requirements and has been an amazing colleague as well,” they wrote. “She led the whole second grade class in the rosary. She explained what each of the mysteries was and created a spark of excitement for something we’ve never done before.” Messerich helped out in the second grade classrooms for 10 weeks before moving on to another long-term substitute position in sixth grade science. “Not only has she been a great colleague,” the nominating teachers said, “but when Kuemper asks something of her, she always steps up with a smile on her face!” The Pella Staff Member of the Month program was initiated last year and recognizes teachers and staff for going above and beyond in service to the students and their school. Winners receive $500 to use toward any school-approved items along with a certificate of recognition.
