Weekend Car-Deer Accidents Serve As A Reminder For Drivers To Be Vigilant For Deer

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office responded to two car/deer accidents over the weekend. According to law enforcement, the first accident occurred at approximately 5:41 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Iowa Highway 44 and Redwood Avenue. The driver, Deanna Faubus of Huxley, was traveling eastbound on 44 in a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan when she collided with the deer. Authorities say the van was totaled in the crash but was able to be driven from the scene. The second accident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. Sunday just north of Guthrie Center. Fifty-one-year-old Courtney Thomas Rouh of Emmetsburg was traveling southbound on Iowa Highway 25 in a 2016 Ford Edge when a deer ran into the path of the SUV. Rouh was unable to stop in time and struck the animal with the front of the vehicle. Rouh did not report any injuries, but the Ford sustained disabling damage. Officials note these accidents serve as a reminder for drivers to be on the lookout for deer, as they are particularly active during this time of year.
