CCSD School Board Votes To Remove Carroll Logo From Videoboard In Response To Lingering Hard Feelings Over Stadium

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education approved a minor change at the Carroll Athletic Stadium during Monday’s meeting in an effort to address lingering concerns about a logo at the top of the videoboard. Karen Friedlein explains why this topic was brought up for discussion.

The problem centers on the stadium, specifically the appearance of a Carroll “C” on the mesh speaker cover over the screen. Jen Munson, who was board president when the stadium referendum passed nearly five years ago, says there is still a lot of misinformation about what the $4.5 million measure entailed. According to her, the board’s only action regarding the videoboard was to approve a purchase contract with the manufacturer, Daktronics.

Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, told the board he was unable to find anything in previous meeting minutes indicating board approval of the addition of the logo to the scoreboard. As for the stadium campaign, copies of the renderings used in promotional materials closely resemble the structure’s final appearance beyond a few minor alterations. Those images can be found included with this story on our website. Munson notes the videoboard was shown in several of the drawings but only to highlight how it could be added later. Its design and placement were not included as part of the referendum campaign. Board member, Cindy Johnson, notes the stadium and videoboard were the top issues for voters prior to her election.

Munson says this is no longer about what the board did or did not approve. She says the stadium, specifically the videoboard, is clearly still creating a divide between some Carroll and Kuemper supporters, and it has gone on long enough.

The other board members agreed with Munson and unanimously approved a motion to remove the logo for now and work with Kuemper administration and the Carroll Chamber of Commerce on finding a suitable replacement. Full audio from that segment of the meeting can be found included below.
