Lillian Draves of Carroll

Lillian Marie Draves, age 86, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by her family.

     At Lillian’s request, a private family funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden with Rev. Anna Small officiating.  Organist for the service will be Marlys Conner.  Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden.

     The family requests no flowers or memorials.

     Lillian was born on December 28, 1934 on her family’s farm southwest of Glidden, and she was the daughter of Carney and Margaret (Greene) Conner.  She grew up in Glidden where she graduated from high school in 1953.  Lillian held several jobs over the years including: McNaughts Grocery Store, secretary at the Glidden-Ralston High School, the Village Clinic, Spurgeons, Rags to Riches, and Our House to Yours.

     Lillian was united in marriage to Russell Draves on March 18, 1956 at the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden by Rev. Becker.  They were blessed with three children.  Lillian enjoyed being a farm wife, spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She had many hobbies including doing puzzles, baking cookies, playing cards, crocheting afghans, going to the Casino, Facebooking, watching her Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones, Chicago Cubs, and snuggling with her four legged friend Chico.

     Lillian is survived her husband Russell of 65 years of Carroll; her children and their families: son Kim Draves (Geri) of Halbur, daughter Becky Dillehay (Scott) of Carroll, and daughter Sandi Pietig (Russ) of Carroll; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister Shirley Clark of Independence, IA; two brothers: Floyd Conner (Bev) of Mediapolis, IA and Duane “Pee Wee” Conner (Joyce) of Glidden; and several nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by her parents Carney and Margaret Conner; two brothers Doyle Conner and James Conner; and one sister Betty Thurman.
