The 2021 Harvest Is Technically In The Books

With the 2021 harvest virtually completed, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has released the year’s final Crop Progress and Condition Report. “Over the last year, we’ve seen how resilient Iowa agriculture is in the face of weather challenges and persistent dryness,” says Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig. “Drought conditions are still lingering in some parts of the state, but given the wet weather pattern over the last several weeks and a much-needed soil moisture recharge, I’m optimistic for the 2022 growing season conditions.” Top soil moisture for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 28 was reported at 23 percent short to very short with subsoil levels at 36 percent. Iowa’s corn for grain harvest reached 98 percent complete last week with just scattered fields left to be harvested. This is five days ahead of the five-year average. Moisture content of field corn being harvested for grain was at 16 percent.
