The Carroll Tigers faced off against a defensively aggressive North Polk team Tuesday night where they ultimately fell at home.
The Tigers in the first quarter were able to escape with a small lead at 12-10 thanks to the performances of Katelyn Aden and Madiston Tunning. Tunning hit a three pointer while Aden led the team with five points to keep Carroll out in front of the Comets. The second quarter is where Carroll hit a rut in their scheme; North Polk started to stuff up the lane and made it hard for Carroll to find any place to pass the ball inside the paint. This defensive push allowed North Polk to outperform Carroll 11-1 in the quarter and take a 21-13 lead at halftime.
The third quarter was a big improvement from the second quarter, but did not result in Carroll taking back the lead. Hannah Jorgensen hit a three pointer while Aden, Josie Ayala, and Camryn Schable all made free throws. North Polk, on the other hand, drained three three-pointers to keep their scoring momentum up going into the fourth quarter with a 31-22 lead. Carroll’s lone chance of getting back in the game was to start fouling North Polk, but even that started to help out the Comets. North Polk made seven of their ten attempted free throws as they kept the defensive pressure on and ultimately defeated Carroll 45-32.
The Tigers will fall to 3-1 overall on the season. The Tigers have a few days of practice before they take on Storm Lake on Saturday, December 11th.

Kuemper used a 5-0 run in the 1st quarter to trail 11-9 heading into the 2nd quarter. Harlan responded with a 15-0 run after the Knights tied the game at 9 to open things up and held their lead for the rest of the game. Kuemper was outscored by 15 points from the three point line and by 7 points at the free throw line as the Knights had an off night shooting.
Frannie Glynn knocked down a three to start the game, putting Kuemper up early. Harlan grabbed a 5-4 lead, extending it to 7-4 on a shot from Ava Monson. Lauren Boell played well for Kuemper, hitting a short jump shot and Kuemper was down 9-7. They tied the game on a pair of free throws from Akuet Malek. Harlan went on a 15-0 run, leading 32-17 at half.
Harlan grew the lead to 41-24 in the 3rd quarter but Kuemper kept battling back. Kora Thomsen drained a three, making it 41-30 late in the 3rd but Harlan responded and led 45-32 after 3. The Knights never got that close again and Harlan scored the final 5 points to win by 20.
The loss drops Kuemper to 0-4 and 0-2. They travel to Red Oak on Friday.
Frannie Glynn had an outstanding game with 12 points and 17 rebounds. Catherine Mayhall finished with 7 points and 7 assists with some very nice passes. Mayhall added 3 steals. Lauren Boell had 10 points and 5 rebounds and Akuet Malek added 5 rebounds.

The winning streak for the South Central Calhoun Titans will live on for another game as they got past Webster City in impressive fashion Tuesday night.
The Titans got started against Webster City with a fairly strong first quarter, scoring double what the Lynx did and leading 12-6 after the first quarter. The second quarter brought much the same, great scoring with an equal amount of defensive stops that allowed the Titans to take a 28-15 lead into halftime. Head Coach Curt Batta says the first half was a struggle getting into their offensive sets as Webster City did a nice job of making it difficult. Batta grabbed three quick fouls in the first half that affected her a bit in the second half.
The third quarter for the Titans was by far the best as they went on a 13-0 scoring run that lasted the whole quarter. This allowed South Central Calhoun to further extend their lead to 41-15. That big third quarter gave the Titans enough confidence to close out the game and once again outperform the Lynx 13-7 and take home the 54-22 victory. Coach Batta says the third quarter was where the defensive intensity started to pick up and that his bench players made a big impact in this game.
Individually for the Titans, Riley Batta had eight points and rebounds, Kylee Schleisman grabbed nine points, three rebounds, and three assists, and Chloe Judisch got after it with 11 points and three rebounds in the game. The Titans will improve to 5-0 overall on the season. South Central Calhoun’s final game of the week will see them travel to GTRA on Friday, December 10th.

Coon Rapids Bayard got out to a large lead from the start against West Harrison and never looked back in their victory Tuesday night.
In the first quarter, it was all Crusaders as they grabbed the lead and brought it all the way up to 27-9 by the end of the quarter. Brynn Bass had a big night for the Crusaders as she led them in scoring with 23 points in the end. The second quarter was another big scoring affair for Coon Rapids Bayard as they went 19-3 and extended their lead further to 46-12. Crusaders Head Coach Kaitlyn McAlister said they had a successful press that made West Harrison shoot off balance and they took away their inside game as well, leading to great results on offense.
In the second half, the Crusaders started to insert some of their bench players into their rotation as they won the third quarter score at 12-3 and the fourth quarter 9-3. Miranda Garcia and Breeley Clayburg were also a big help underneath the basket as they both led the team with seven rebounds each. The Crusaders would go on to win 67-18 over the Hawkeyes.
Coon Rapids Bayard will improve to 2-2 overall on the season. The Crusaders wrap up their week of games with a road game against Woodbine on Friday, December 10th.

The IKM-Manning Wolves had a close Tuesday night encounter with AHSTW where the Vikings were barely able to pull out the victory.
The Vikings started off the night with the early lead after the first quarter, leading the Wolves 14-10. The Wolves were playing closely with the Vikings in the first half, and that continued in the second quarter where they were able to out-score AHSTW 10-8, but were unable to take the lead. The Vikings held on to their 22-20 lead going into halftime. Bianca Cadwell, Macie Doyel, and Mabel Langel were all contributors to the Wolves score who all kept the team in the game and close with the Vikings all night long. Langel ended the game leading the team with 13 points.
In the second half, the Wolves started out by riding their momentum from the second quarter and ended up out-scoring the Vikings 13-11 and tied up the game at 33-33 going into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, AHSTW was able to swing the momentum back to their side and take back their lead and held on to win 47-43. Other individual efforts from the Wolves included Morgan Hanson who led the team with 12 rebounds and Cadwell who led the team with five steals. The Wolves will fall to 1-3 overall on the season. IKM-Manning will continue their week of competition with a home game on Friday, December 10th where they will play host to Tri-Center.

Ar-We-Va went up against Rolling Valley Conference foe Exira-EHK Tuesday night and had some troubles scoring against the Spartan defense.
The Spartans got out to an explosive start in the first quarter, taking a 28-5 lead into the second quarter. The first half came to an end with Exira-EHK adding to their lead, now at 47-6. Ar-We-Va’s Jamie Hausman was trying what she could to keep the Rockets in the game as she had five points, three rebounds, two steals, and a block in the end. Maggie Ragaller did a little of everything too, recording three points, four rebounds, an assist, two steals, and a block.
The Spartans in the second half continued to add to their total, bringing it to 59-8 after the third quarter, and finally 67-12 when the final buzzer went off. Other stat lines for the Rockets include Sammy Hinners who led the team with five rebounds, Sophie Jackson who had two points and two rebounds, Kora Obrecht who recorded a steal, and Makayla Schrad who had two points. The Rockets next game sees them at home playing host to Woodbine on Tuesday, December 14th.

The Paton Churdan Rockets had a tough challenger in CAM Anita Tuesday night who were able to take victory away from them.
The Cougars got after it from the first quarter as they took the 24-6 lead over the Rockets. The same held true for the second quarter as the Cougars dominated 27-2 and took a 51-8 lead at halftime. Carmyn Paup and Hannah Behrens for the Rockets were leaders on two different sides of the court. Paup led the team with 10 points and helped out Behrens in the rebounds department as Behrens recorded 11 rebounds and Paup had six. Both players also recorded two steals.
Paton Churdan was able to outperform the Cougars 10-9 in the third quarter, but CAM Anita still firmly had the lead at 60-18. In the final quarter of the contest, the Cougars completed their large scoring game with an 11-3 scoring quarter to win 71-21 over Paton Churdan. The Rockets will wrap up their week of competition with a road game against West Harrison on Friday, December 10th.

The Audubon Wheelers went head-to-head with Treynor Tuesday night where the Cardinals were able to escape Audubon county with a win.
It was a standstill at the end of the first quarter as the Cardinals and Wheelers were tied at 9-9. Trynor started to pull away in the second quarter by out-scoring the Wheelers 13-6 and taking the 22-15 lead. Aleah Hermansen had another big offensive night as she put up a team high 13 points. She had some nice backup with Audrey Jensen scoring seven points and Jaci Christen netting six points.
Treynor and Audubon’s third quarter was close, but still went to the Cardinals 13-8 giving their lead a boost at 35-23 by the end of the third quarter. Trynor was able to hold on in the fourth quarter by going 11-6 against Audubon and coming away with the 46-29 victory. The Wheelers will fall to 2-1 overall on the season. The Wheelers’ week of competition continues with a road game against LoMa on Friday, December 10th.
