A Fort Dodge woman was taken into custody Thursday after an investigation into an attempt to cash a stolen check in Storm Lake. The Storm Lake Police Department reports they were notified by United Bank of Iowa of the attempt on Oct. 5 for the check presented at the drive-thru on Oct. 4. With the assistance of surveillance video, the suspect, 36-year-old Kristabell Elizabeth Thoma, was identified and an arrest warrant was issued on a charge of forgery, a class D felony. Thoma was located by the Perry Police Department on Thursday and taken into custody on the warrant and later extradited to the Buena Vista County jail, where she was held on a $5,000 bond. She has since bonded out of jail. The Fort Dodge Police Department also assisted in the investigation.
