West Central Valley at Paton Churdan Boys

West Central Valley 54

Paton Churdan 51

Paton Churdan had a close game late against West Central Valley, but the Wildcats were able to hold on for the victory.

The Rockets came out from the start and gave the Wildcats some trouble, taking the 14-13 lead after the first quarter. West Central Valley took over the ball game in the second quarter with a 17-13 scoring advantage and leading 30-27 at halftime. Joe Carey and Bradyn Smith for Paton Churdan had big nights as Carey led the team with 17 points and Smith was close behind with 10 points. Smith also added two steals and two blocks that helped the Rockets stay within a few points of the Wildcat’s lead.

Paton Churdan took a noticeable dip in the third quarter as West Central Valley went 13-6 over the Rockets and extended their lead to 43-33. The fourth quarter was by far the best quarter for Paton Churdan as they’d get on a scoring high and took it to the Wildcats 18-11. Unfortunately, West Central Valley pressed late into the quarter and was able to cause some turnovers and hold on by a mere three points to get away with the 54-51 victory on the road. Rockets Head Coach Bud Fagan says they were finally able to attack the basket in the fourth quarter, ultimately making 10 of their 12 free throws in the game, but that third quarter performance was what hurt them in the end.

The Rockets will look to pick up their first victory of the season and in the Rolling Valley Conference when they take on Glidden Ralston on Thursday, December 14th.
