The high winds forecast throughout the region today (Wednesday) also carry the risk of fast moving and potentially hazardous field fires. This scenario became a reality at approximately 12:20 p.m. when the Manning, Irwin and Audubon Fire Departments were called to a brush fire that had quickly spread into a nearby field by the intersection of Bluebird Avenue and 150th Street, also known as County Road F24, in northwestern Audubon County. Fortunately, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly thanks to their quick response. However, this serves as a reminder for area residents to remain vigilant. The National Weather Service recommends Iowans refrain from using equipment such as lawnmowers or chainsaws, which can produce heat and sparks, throwing cigarettes or matches out of moving vehicles and postpone any planned burns until the risk has passed.
