The District 8 Iowa Cattlemen’s Association Director was recently presented with the Environmental Stewardship Award. Justin Robbins says he and his wife, Lacie, who farm near Scranton, were humbled by the nomination.
In February, they will travel to Texas to see how they come out in the regional and national award presentations. Robbins explains some of the many different ways they incorporate environmentally sustainable protocols into their operation.
One of the reasons for this is his son, McKinley.
Robbins says they also have some solar wells and ensure animals are kept out of a pond on their property. They have removed some of their farm ground from production and seeded it for rotational grazing instead. The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association Environmental Stewardship Award recognizes producers in all segments of the industry who incorporate practices that not only protect the environment, but also contribute to productivity and profitability. Recipients are selected based on the systems, methods and approaches they utilize. Previous national winners from the region include the Brad Z Ranch in Guthrie Center and Wiese and Son of Manning.
