CCSD Board Of Education Approves Contract With New Web Hosting Company For Mobile App Development

Students, parents and guardians should have mobile app access to quickly receive important information and announcements related to the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) by the end of the school year. According to Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, the district’s website has not been significantly changed since 2018 and is beginning to show its age.

The district’s current website was designed by Team TWI out of Davenport and is hosted by Ohio-based Beyond Hosting, LLC. According to Berlau, posting new information or adding new pages can be tedious, so officials requested Technology Director, Craig Rowedder, look into other companies, especially ones that offered joint website and mobile application services. He returned with two companies that met the general specifications: OneCMS and Apptegy. Following additional review, Berlau recommended Apptegy based on several factors, the first being how they handle data migration.

Berlau adds they also considered comments from districts also using their services.

Board member, Duane Horsley, asked about how easily Apptegy’s system could be updated or push out important information.

Apptegy’s proposal has a one-time mobile app development fee of $11,500, but that figure would be reduced by $4,500 if a contract is approved on or before the end of the year. Once up and running, there is annual $10,900 fee for webhosting and server maintenance fees for a total cost of $17,900. The board voted unanimously in favor of Apptegy’s proposal and web development will begin almost immediately. Berlau anticipates the new system to be up and running by the end of school year, but it could be as early as February.
