Summer Internship Programs Open Up For The Fourth Consecutive Year

At the beginning of February, Gov. Kim Reynolds and Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) announced up to $250,000 in grants that will be made available for organizations wanting to provide internship programs for high school students. Now in its fourth year, the Future Ready Iowa Summer Youth Internship Project helps connect young Iowans with potential future employers and helps them gain experience and skills necessary for workplace success. To receive the funding, eligible entities must submit applications to www.IowaGrants.gov by March 2. Reynolds says, “Iowa needs every available worker for our economy to succeed. These Future Ready Iowa Summer Youth Internship programs open doors to students who face barriers or otherwise might not consider work in a particular industry or career. Our state can build a brighter future by helping both young Iowans and employers consider the entire range of what’s possible in our labor force.” Grant awards can be used to support program costs, such as internship wages, training resources, transportation, clothing or other similar expenses, and range from $5,900 to $246,720.
