The Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) Large Group State Contest was held over the weekend with 12 of the 13 Carroll and Kuemper teams who qualified earning top scores. Carroll High School (CHS) sent 10 teams to Spencer on Saturday with all 10 receiving a “I” or excellent rating. CHS teams included: three group improvisation; one musical theatre; one short film; three ensemble acting; one readers theatre; and one one-act play. Kuemper Catholic (KHS) had three teams qualify for state with two getting top marks in ensemble acting and musical theatre. Groups receiving a “I” rating are eligible for All-State nominations, which is one of the highest honors speech participants can receive. All-State nominations are expected to be announced after 4 p.m. this (Monday) afternoon. Selected groups will be invited to participate at the All-State Large Group Speech Festival on Saturday, Feb. 19 in Ames.
