Investigation Leads To Jefferson Man’s Arrest For Assaulting Alleged Trespasser With Baseball Bat

A Jefferson man was taken into custody early Thursday morning after allegedly attacking a man with a baseball bat while he was trying to take a generator. The Jefferson Police Department responded to a home in the 200 block of N. Locust Street at approximately 1:27 a.m. after 41-year-old Ryan Joseph Murphy contacted dispatch to report a trespasser refusing to leave the property. When law enforcement arrived in the area, they located the subject in a nearby street, who told authorities Murphy had struck him multiple times with the bat while taking the generator from the shed. The officer’s investigation led to Murphy’s arrest for willful injury causing bodily injury, a class D felony, and an outstanding Greene County warrant for probation violation. Authorities say the victim was transported to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of his injuries.
