Arrest Made In Calhoun County Homicide Over The Weekend

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office reports an arrest has been made following a shooting in Pomeroy on Saturday afternoon. At approximately 4:25 p.m., first responders were dispatched to 210 S. Ontario St. after receiving a call indicating a man had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim, identified as 59-year-old Anthony Hinners, died at the scene despite life-saving measures provided by authorities. Authorities requested the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) assist in the investigation. Agents identified 66-year-old Michael Kenneth Hinners as the chief suspect. He was taken into custody and transported to the Carroll County jail. Hinners is charged with one count of first-degree murder, a class A felony. The victim’s body was transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner for a formal autopsy. The Pomeroy Police Department and Calhoun County Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene and during the investigation.
