Spring Storm Spawns Tornadoes Near Gilmore City; Listening Area Avoids Worst Of The Damage

The National Weather Service issued more than a dozen tornado warnings last night (Tuesday) in Iowa with at least one tornado touching down near Gilmore City in Humboldt County, but the Carroll Broadcasting listening area appears to have been spared the bulk of the severe damage. There were reports of wind gusts as high as 75 mph from the Arthur N. Neu Airport east of Carroll, with scattered instances of large hail, downed tree limbs, and other wind-related damage. Residents were without power temporarily in several local communities Tuesday evening, but as of this (Wednesday) morning, power had been restored to nearly all of them, according to MidAmerican Energy’s outage tracker. The National Weather Service is dispatching meteorologists to the worst-hit areas around Pocahontas and Humboldt Counties today (Wednesday) to record damage assessments.
